Blog Winner #1: GOTHIC SHAVEH
FULL FRAME ORIGINAL
so, here we see the metadata for this pic, and it was apparently taken 6.1.2016. this blog is being written 6.1.2026 and it wasn’t planned at all. it’s a synchronicity.
When preparing this post, an unexpected chronological alignment emerged. Gothic Shaveh was photographed on June 1, 2016. The image was selected for publication on June 1, 2026, exactly ten years after its creation. The anniversary was not intentional and was discovered only after the photograph had already been selected as the winner of Blog Post #1, which you are reading right now. Yes, I put it off, and I even posted another poll for Blog Post #2 without writing this first. The winner of that one is Kelsey’s Hambly RFS 2022 pic. But for now, we’re discussing Gothic Shaveh, which somehow was taken ten years ago to this very day. Which means it’s a synchronicity.
This coincidence invites consideration through the theoretical framework of synchronicity developed by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. Introduced most fully in his later writings, synchronicity was proposed as an explanatory model for meaningful coincidences: events that appear connected through significance rather than direct causation. The concept remains controversial because it challenges a central assumption of modern scientific thought, namely that causality represents the sole basis upon which relationships between events may be understood.
Importantly, Jung did not reject probability. The occurrence described here requires no supernatural explanation. From a statistical perspective, it is entirely plausible that an image drawn from a sufficiently large archive would eventually coincide with a significant anniversary of its creation. Yet Jung's concern was not whether such events could be explained probabilistically. His interest centered on the interpretive dimension of coincidence and the manner in which certain convergences acquire psychological or symbolic significance despite the absence of a causal relationship.
Non-goth (i.e. “relaxed arms”) version of Gothic Shaveh, taken seconds later on June 1, 2016, literally ten years ago to the day of when I’m writing this, ironically at 3:21 a.m., how weird is that?
Carl Jung defined synchronicity as an acausal connecting principle in which inner psychological states and external events coincide in a manner that cannot be explained through conventional causation yet appears linked through meaning.
Chris de Burgh's "The Lady in Red" became one of the defining romantic ballads of the 1980s, pairing a simple melody with heartfelt lyrics inspired by his wife, Diane. Released in 1986, it became his signature hit, reaching No. 1 in the UK and peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Original square crop version posted in 2016 but just updated a little bit. But this is how it would have looked ten years ago. To the day. For more Polychromatic x Shaveh pics, please review the Modeling Page and the Reno Fashion Show Page. She might also be on the main Fashion page.
Photography provides a particularly useful context through which to examine this question. Every photograph is anchored to a specific historical moment. The image records an instant that has already disappeared while simultaneously preserving it in visual form. As a result, photographs occupy a unique temporal position. They function both as documents of the past and as objects continually reinterpreted in the present. Meaning is therefore not fixed at the moment of exposure but evolves through subsequent encounters with the image.
Viewed through this perspective, Gothic Shaveh operates as more than a fashion portrait. The photograph remains materially unchanged from the moment it was created in 2016. Its composition, expression, atmosphere, and visual structure are identical to those present when the shutter was released. What has changed is the interpretive context surrounding the image. A decade separates the act of creation from the present encounter, introducing a temporal dimension that was absent at the moment of capture.
The coincidence of dates does not alter the photograph itself. Rather, it alters the conditions under which the photograph is understood. This distinction reflects a central feature of Jung's theory. Synchronicity does not depend upon physical causation. Instead, it emerges through the relationship between events and the meanings attributed to them by conscious observers.
Whether the anniversary of Gothic Shaveh should be regarded as a meaningful synchronicity or merely an instance of statistical coincidence remains open to interpretation. What is undeniable, however, is that the convergence of June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2026 transformed an ordinary act of archival retrieval into a subject of theoretical inquiry. In doing so, the photograph becomes a useful case study through which to examine broader questions concerning time, memory, probability, and the construction of meaning itself.
As for the image, Gothic Shaveh is titled as such b/c it’s cropped to look goth, you know, like in the Omen. If you look above you can see the full frame.
Stay tuned for Blog #2, “Kelsey’s Hambly Pic,” as seen below, which will be written when I feel like it.
